Where I'm From

I am from ochre yellow, stucco walls
From vegetable gardens and frogs
I am from the surfaces of pebbles (wet with pond water taste like rain)
I am from green grasshoppers and budding flowers
The dragonfly
Whose wings are a delicate web of silk
Light on young floating leaves in the creek

I am from alphabet cookies and shiny pink bicycles
From Tina and Conrad
I'm from the "hi doggy-dog" and lemon drops
From eat this and pink heffalump costumes
I'm from bowl haircuts and sledding mazes
And smooth, frosty sea glass from a lake

I'm from Nicholas Joseph and Olivia Marie Calvino Suszynki's branch
Fruit juice pancakes and Babar
From the weeping cherry tree and dancing in the rain
The glass and mirror elegantly covered bathrooms
There is an old painted wood box
That is home to faded pictures, old clothes, papers
Beautiful figments of the past
That are still alive, thriving beneath ordinary days

I am from those moments
The faithful budding flower
Who shoots through soil every spring
